Weird Reviews: As Advertised

It’s time for the next installment of our occasional series of absurd, puzzling, and/or just plain silly reviews I found online! This time, the reviews are for four different things. I share excerpts from each review (with slight edits), comment on it, and include screenshots of the original posts.

1. Cascade

Reviewed: Eagle Falls, Emerald Bay State Park, CA

“Nice views of the bay, but windy.”

Result: 5 stars for nature, despite the fact that it’s outdoors.

2. Carhops

Reviewed: Sonic Drive-In, Santa Fe, NM

“Drove in, decided on items, punched service button … No one ever came to collect money or an order.”

While it seems like 1-star service from America’s Drive-In, the review ends with a twist.

“Didn’t want to eat in my car.”

Result: So I think Sonic actually did the reviewer a favor.

Review for a Sonic Drive-In in Santa Fe. It says: "Drove in, decided on items, punched service, ready to order. Punched service a second time five minutes later and placed order. No one ever came to collect money or an order, so I left. Didn't want to eat in my car."

3. Circus

Reviewed: Circus Circus Hotel and Casino parking garage in Reno, NV.

“Circus Circus Reno is a great casino and hotel, but if I were to judge it by what I saw of the parking garage, I would’ve guessed the casino was a dump, as well.”

Strange assumption, since most venues are much less dumpy than their corresponding parking garages. But okay.

“Thank God the trash hasn’t reached the casino just yet!”

Does the reviewer think that the debris has a mind of its own? And is purposefully advancing on Circus Circus Reno?

Result: 1 star for a parking garage looking as bad as a parking garage. Next time, I’d recommend the reviewer take the bus. And stop watching so many 1950s B-movies.

The smell of stale beer, trash everywhere, dirty walls in need of cleaning, and the garage elevators were not that much better. Thank God the trash hasn’t reached the casino yet!”

4. Chomp!

Reviewed: Dog treats purchased at PetSmart.

“Gave them as a treat tonight while we ate dinner. They had them gone before we even sat down…”

Sounds like the dogs loved their new treats! 5 stars?

Nope.

“…Very disappointed for the price. Wish I still had my receipt.”

Review on petsmart.com that says "What a waste of money! Bought these the other day and gave them as a treat tonight while we ate dinner. They had them gone before we even sat down. Very disappointed for the price. Wish I still had my receipt."

Result: The humans left a 1 star rating, but I’m pretty sure their canine companions would give the treats four paws up.

Spring Color Story: Salmon, Blush + Eucalyptus

fabric

We often think of pink with Valentines Day. But if you take a couple shades that go well together – like blush and salmon – then balance it out with green, it becomes an all-spring color scheme.

In this case, I’m thinking of minty, sea foamy greens. In the neighborhood of a lighter, warmer teal. Like the tones you find in sea glass. Or eucalyptus leaves.

What To Do With 24 Hours in Tucson

tacos, squash, and a drink
Meal at Seis

I wrote a guide for Tucson Foodie about how to get the most out of Tucson if you’re only here for 24 hours. Of course, where to eat is a big part of it. But I also recommend where to stay and fun things to do while you’re here.

The post is split up for 4 different types of travelers. (Kind of like a very short Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book.) So there’s a different 24 hour itinerary depending on whether you’re a Super Foodie, Outdoor Adventurer (looking to hike, mountain bike, etc.), Wellness Seeker (looking for a DIY spa-like experience) or Family with Kids.

Picacho Peak + Wildflowers

Picacho Peak is arguably one of the best spots to see blooming wildflowers and cactus in Arizona…”

If you’ve ever driven I-10 from Phoenix to Tucson (or vice versa), it would be hard not to notice the distinctive shape of Picacho Peak rising from the desert floor.

It’s the center of an Arizona state park and a great spot to see spring wildflowers!
