Being Human Festival: Ohhhh the Humanities!

Free 10-day festival that seeks to celebrate and engage the public with the humanities. Being Human believes that literature, history, classics, archaeology, art history, philosophy, languages, cultural studies, music, theatre, and theology help us understand what it means to be human and should belong to everyone. While most of the festival events take place in the UK, there are always several virtual and hybrid events on its program.

Meryl McMaster: Bloodline

48 large-scale photographic works by Canadian artist Meryl McMaster, who explores her mixed Plains Cree/Siksika, Dutch, and British ancestry. The photographs evoke themes of memory, containment, erasure, and self-determination.

Opportunity to explore a part of Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home, Taliesin West, at your own pace. There will also be performances and participatory activities like ask-me stations and crafts for all ages!

Homolovi IV Pueblo Guided Tour

November 3 + 9 in Winslow

Guided tour of Homolovi IV, the oldest of the Homolovi group of pueblos, which is usually closed to the public. The group will first meet at Homolovi State Park’s visitor center, where a park ranger will give some background on the history of the site and its tie to the Hopi people. Attendees will caravan (in their own vehicles) to the site, where the ranger-lead tour will continue.

• It’s a 12-mile drive from Homolovi State Park’s visitor center to the Homolovi IV site.

Acker Night: Music for Music

December 8 in Prescott

A night of live music down the festively-lit streets of Downtown Prescott that raises money for music education. It begins with an Opening Ceremony and school choir performance. Over 100 Prescott businesses open their doors to give Acker Night musicians a place to play. Tips go to provide music lessons and instruments to local youth and support school music programs.

Mary Ruefle: Erasures

Exhibition of altered books made by poet Mary Ruefle. Using correction fluid, markers, and gouache, and often incorporating collaged found images, the original texts are partially covered over to reveal new and surprising voices, phrases, narratives, and fragmented poems in a process called “erasure.”

Arizona Biennial 2024

The Arizona Biennial is an opportunity for innovative and diverse emerging artists to exhibit their art in a museum setting and to introduce it to the public. A new juror from outside the state is selected to curate each Arizona Biennial, reviewing the works of hundreds of artists to create a cohesive exhibition that becomes an overview of artistic creativity in Arizona.

Stages of Imagination: The Iconic Broadway Designs of David Korins

Peek behind the curtain at the original Broadway set models of Hamilton, Beetlejuice, Dear Evan Hansen, Here Lies Love, and The Who’s Tommy – all created by designer David Korins. The exhibition also includes highlights from interviews from artistic collaborators such as Lin Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Lea Salonga, and Ben Platt.

All Souls Procession Weekend

November 1 – 3 in Tucson

A uniquely Tucson celebration, which draws on the many cultural traditions of the community to honor the lives of our loved ones and ancestors. The focal point of the event is a two-mile long procession on blocked-off streets in west Tucson, where all are invited to walk and remember. It ends on the Mercado District Festival Grounds, where there will be performances, art installations, and food vendors. The culmination is the ceremonial burning of collected remembrances in a large metal urn.

Diwali: a Yoga Event with NETI GUPTA

November 1 in Tucson

Community gathering to learn about Diwali, the holiday and festival of lights, through practicing mantra, pranayama, yoga asana, and restorative yoga. The celebration will be facilitated by Indian-American yoga teacher Neti Gupta, who is passionate about connecting her Indian heritage and Hindu roots with her yoga practice in western culture.​

Historic Brewing Company Cleanup Event

November 2 in Tucson

Cleanup event at Oracle State Park with Historic Brewing Company and Sonoran Insiders. Tasks may include removal of invasive grass, trash pickup along the roadway, painting, and cleaning the historic Kannally Ranch House.

Afterward, take a break on the Kannally House patio! Those over 21 can enjoy Historic Brewing Company’s new Oracle State Park inspired brew. There will also be a prize drawing for an AppreciateAZ gift box.

• Historic Brewing Company is creating a series of seasonal Arizona State Parks-themed brews, beginning with Kannally Ranch House Brew, a Mexican lager featuring Oracle State Park. A portion of the sales of these specialty brews will benefit Arizona’s state parks.

Día de Los Muertos Celebración: A Lively Day of the Dead Event

November 3 in Tucson

Celebrate Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in TBG’s beloved Nuestro Jardín / Barrio Garden. There will be festive floral displays, mariachi and puppet performances, educational programming for all ages, and an ofrenda, a community altar to honor the lives of family and friends who have passed.

Studio Animals: Photo Ops

November 3 in Tucson

Start with a behind the scenes tour of the reptile building (not open to the public) to see how these reptiles are housed and cared for. Then have a photo session with rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, and other desert animals. Learn about these animals as you get photos with studio backdrops and lighting.

Tucson Film Festival

The festival showcases music-related films, especially when they have a connection to Arizona or the desert Southwest. TFF is part of an Arizona non-profit organization dedicated to creating community through cinema, theater and documentary filmmaking.

Spirit Pot Workshop: waxing moon

November 8 – 9 in Tucson

Two-part workshop on making Spirit Pots, ceramic altar pots used for a smoking smudge stick or to be filled with affirmations or intentions on small pieces of paper. They’re meant “to inspire and remind one to dream a little.” Participants will choose materials to wrap a medium sized pre-thrown pot in before it gets the final, overnight firing. The next day, everyone will return to see the unpredictable results and finish their pot to take home.

Kartchner Caverns State Park Anniversary

November 9 in Benson

Celebration of 50 years since the discovery of Kartchner Caverns and 25 years since it was opened as Kartchner Caverns State Park! There will be talks on the park’s history, food trucks, conservation exhibitors, and kids’ activities. Regular cave tours will also be available by reservation.

DUSK Music Festival 2024
