One of the things that really struck me as I was wandering through the Sculpture Garden at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California was the interplay between the sculptures themselves and the natural elements surrounding them. Smooth tree trunks, twisted branches, round lily pads, and even afternoon sunbeams beautifully echo (or are echoed in) the artwork.
There are more sculptures on the lawn in front of the museum, as well as inside. Many of those are also framed by trees and illuminated by sunlight.

Beautiful gardens!! I haven’t made it to this one, I have to check it out. Not sure if you know about the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens located in Pasadena. It’s beautiful as well.
I love sculptures, and the sculpture garden photos are wonderful. Thanks for taking me through that, as I doubt I will ever get there.
Happy to give you the virtual tour!
That is why I love sculpture gardens; much more than visiting sculptures indoors. Have you been to the Smithsonian garden on the Mall?
Not yet! So many things I’d like to go back and see!
These are beautiful! The sculpture garden looks like a great place to be able to walk around (or even sit!) and have some peace/thinking space.
Exactly! There’s actually a cafe there, and I definitely took some time to sit and relax a bit before walking around.
Oh, gorgeous juxtapositions. Love the curves and angles and the way the sculptures follow the trees and things around them. What an eye you have to capture those parallels!
Well, thank you. I’m realy awestruck by how they placed the sculptures so perfectly! I kept thinking, “Did they put that there on purpose? They must’ve, right?” I’d love to know more about how it was designed.
