We had a great turnout for our Shrinky Dinks project at CraftHack!
I think that has a lot to do with the nostalgia that goes along with these.
We started out with clear and frosted sheets of shrinkable plastic and then used sharpies to draw or trace our designs. We cut them out and maybe punched a hole in the top for making jewelry later.
A couple at a time went into Eileen’s toaster oven. We found ourselves gathering around to watch them transform, the plastic curling up before thickening and setting. It still seems kinda magical.

I love making Shrinkydinks. I inked a few recently of favourite children’s book characters.
That’s really cool! Shrinky Dinks + children’s books = double nostalgia! ;)
I love shrinks dinks! We made magnets out of them in college. I think I need to bring back the dinks for my girls. They would love them.
Definitely! It would be a fun project to work on together!
Also, magnets are a fun idea! I’ll have to keep that in mind.
We made Shrinky Dinks at #CraftHack. You’re never too old for creativity! http://t.co/fc21BB0Uf5 #diy #craft http://t.co/Y4WfdICXPG
*Dinks*
Autocorrect does not like that word, does it?! Mine kept trying to change “dinks” to “Dinka.” (??)
I loved Shrinky Sinks as a little girl! I had a fashion book of mix and match outfits and patterns to make endless combinations of fashion forward ladies. I remember sitting on the kitchen floor watching through the oven glass in the glow of its light as they got smaller and smaller.
So much fun! Sometime you should give them another try. Drawing/coloring can be very relaxing.
